Mechanical Diagnosis/Therapy (MDT)
This approach is particularly useful for spinal disc-related symptoms – such as localised spine pain, sciatica, referred arm/leg pain, pins and needles, numbness. In this approach, strategic movements performed by the patient are carefully monitored as to whether they increase or decrease their symptoms. The ability to increase then decrease symptoms is considered to confirm the presence of a mechanical problem, leading to a path of beneficial movements that can be performed primarily by the patient to help resolve the symptoms.
